Bringing the Dose Back
Not really going to get too much into what I've been up to in between now and then, but just to briefly elaborate, since then, I have turned 30, I shaved my head, and started running a business in the service industry. My family acquired a failing laundromat at July 2011, and I have been tasked to turn it around and ultimately make it a success. I have been definitely up for the challenge since then, and it is continued until now. I have indefinitely put my motivational ventures on hold to focus on this, but definitely not killed it as my inspirational speaking is, has always has a huge place in my heart as I can pin anything significant in my own life specifically to this. But, I still continue to inspire people daily with great public service, and with everything I do. (Not to mention, I still post the birthday videos that I'm known for, and do a speech every now and then just to stay sharp). But, as of right now, the timing right now really isn't right to go touring and get bookings, as I have other goals, and the world's perception of "expertise" is, in my opinion, wrongly skewed (won't get into that, but just to sum everything up in one word, all I have to say is "Snooki").
Come to think of it, over the past year and a half or so, I have come to realize that "motivation" or "inspiration" isn't really my passion, and never really has been. It's helping people, and overcoming challenges. I was just using speaking as a vehicle to fulfill that passion. Although there's no better thrill than to "work a crowd", the time isn't right and the world is not quite aligned. As I said, I will eventually get back into that, but as of now, I can express this passion in other ways.
As far as the world is concerned, there are way too many things that took place. If I took the time to think about each notable famous person that died, as well as all the major events that took place in news, pop culture, I will waste months on end, just staring in my computer trying to think about what to blog about and how to blog about it. Heck, if I just talk about what's been happening in the DC sports scene (which is inherently my other "passion"), I can fill a sports talk radio show with content for weeks on end.
But, as I was going to bed last night, I had so many thoughts I had to get out, so I had this strong feeling in my gut to bring this blog back. Now, I'm not going to make any guarantees as to what exactly I'll post about, and how frequently I will post, but I WILL post! I know for sure that I will not go almost 20 months without an update.
Also, because I'm bringing this back, why not do it in a somewhat different way? Depending on if I get reactions from my articles, I do want to be more interactive. So, if you see this posted blog on Facebook (facebook.com/Obedoza) or Twitter (@OBECorp), and have a comment about what I wrote, or should write about, definitely get back at me. Or, if I just have a lot of people react to something I have done in or out of cyberspace, I will definitely write about it here.
All I can say is stay tuned to what I have in store. Like I said, I'm not going to overhype anything (like I usually do), but I will do my best to keep it interesting, OBE-style. I will make another post soon, but hopefully, not too soon.

Much Needed Break... But I'm Back!!! (With An Upcoming Surprise)
But don't worry, I will get back to blogging all things motivation, all things insight, all things sport, all things life, all things "OBE". In fact, I want to make an announcement that I have something big planned for all my blog readers, as well as my friends in social media come labor day weekend. I will break the news exclusively here on this blog sometime during the span of the 3-day weekend.
What is it? You have to tune in to find out. But I promise you... it's gonna be rewarding, it's gonna be great, and it's gonna be ULTIMATE.
Until then... keep checking out the blog and reading the blog posts. I'll definitely continue to provide some good content.

Why I Blog Like an Owl
The reason why I actually do most of my posting late at night is because I usually go to bed shortly after I hit the publish button. And the two most consistent as well as crucial times of the day when your brain determines a good part of your being and does most of it's "programming", occurs 1) a few minutes after you wake up, and 2) just before you go to bed.
As you may know, I have read tons of self-development books and articles (and even wrote a couple of books on my own... see the Amazon widget above this entry). Many of these books will agree with this statement, and it's because the most crucial times for your brain to "absorb" things is before and/or after you slip into consciousness.
If you think about that, it makes sense. We do the most habitual things that we do after we wake up and before we sleep (such as brush our teeth, say our prayers, read, exercise, etc). Not to mention, that's why a lot of experts out there don't recommend you falling asleep with the TV on... as it would fill your mind with impurity just before you slip into unconsciousness. (Refer to Eckhart Tolle's bestselling book "The New Earth" for more on this.)
But since I want to make blogging and openly expressing myself as a bigger part of who I am, I decided I should do this "self-expression" during the crucial time of just before going to bed. Not only will it help me get this activity to be more habitual, but by doing this, I am programming my brain and telling it that this is important to me.
However, one downside to this is, if I decide to do a negative or angry post before going to bed. Anger and negativity is unhealthy for your being, and you should not go to bed with it. I'm sure many of you heard the quote... "do not go to bed when your angry" right? In that case, if I decide to post a more negative post (since we all can't be perfect), I might do those a little earlier during the day.
So in case you are wondering why I'm always cutting it close as in doing my blog posts, you have your answer. So, my advice is... if you want to make something a big part of not only your day, but also your life, "program" yourself to do it before/after bedtime consciousness.
Sweet dreams.

READ THIS!!!...
Well, so much for me taking a day off from blogging. I figured since I did it for two straight weeks, I should keep it going, right? I had a few more minutes to go before the day is officially over, so I thought I'd get one quick thought in and post a blog before it was too late!
Nothing inspirational, nothing thought-provoking, and far from extravagantly loquacious. Just a random thought I had in my head that I wanted to express what I really think of anyone who took time to read this blog.
That is all. Have a great week!

Last Day of the "Challenge"
But during these past 14 days, I have kept my promise, posting at least 1 blog everyday since August 1st, with a total of 15 blogs total. I know I could have done better, but I felt I've done well in holding my end of the bargain. Though my posts weren't numerous, I did feel they weren't short of content and insight, and many who did read them got a good amount out of them.
Although this challenge is over, would I continue to blog every day? I hope so! I will probably take tomorrow off though, considering I have a full day tomorrow. I'm also spending time with my niece and nephew the whole weekend (and for those with kids, you would know it's hard enough to get things done when their needs to be met). But after that, I hope to continue my consistent blogging parade again to keep my consistency of expression goin.
But like I said, when you make a commitment or a promise (whether it be to yourself, or to someone else), you must do all you can to keep that promise. By doing that challenge, I wanted to show that I truly am one of those who really put my words into action, and not just some hypocrite who just says stuff.
So with that, I just want to thank everyone who's been reading during the past 15 days. I have gotten a good amount of feedback and it's good to know that I have some consistent readers over all. And with that, it will give me even more of a reason to keep blogging. So if you're reading this... THANK YOU! (You know who you are).
Until next time, with even more awesome blogging. But as of now, I have to get back to babysitting.

When in Doubt, Don't...
...or "Publish", or "Share", or whatever the button may say that may cause your questionable Internet post/e-mail/blog to go public for everyone to see.
I was about to make a stupid mistake. I was a little over-the-top in this particular blog entry. But after pausing and reflecting, before I pressed the orange "Publish Post" button, I had doubts and just decided to scrap the blog, with "Select All" then pressing "Delete" and starting over.
To make a long story short, I was about to post a very controversial and possibly offensive blog that will lose a lot of the respect that I have worked hard to gain. I realize that by deleting, it does kind of go against my philosophy of not being afraid to show yourself, no matter how controversial it may be, "warts and all". But at the same time, I have to respect myself enough that I wouldn't want to be taken as a joke of some sort. Posting that controversial blog would have probably done just that.
Now I know I'll probably disappoint some people by not posting that blog, as many may think of me as a prude, or may be curious what I was about to post. Let's just say, that I felt it was so crude and offensive, that if many women that I like happen to read it, I would have no chance of a date. Needless to say, I felt I made the right decision.
So in case you have any doubts about what you'll post... just don't post it. This actually follows the advice Ted Leonsis gave in the blog I discussed a few entries ago. You have to consider yourself as a very important person, with enough respect for yourself to uphold your importance. One wrong move can destroy all that.
An upside to openly posting something controversial, is that it will ultimately get you readers and possibly popularity. But at what cost? I personally won't sell myself out to get a few minutes of fame here and there.
So those are my 2 cents for today. And in case you were wondering why my blog was a little late today, this entry should have explained it.

Bloggiversary
As far as the first year goes, I am a little bit disappointed in myself that I didn't post here a lot more. I posted a lot during the first few days, and things started to slow down from there (sort of like a "honeymoon period").
My goals for this blog was for it to be an outlet for "Out-of-the-Box Empowerment". I wanted it to be a vehicle for my motivational ventures, but at the same time, I wanted to use it as an outlet for expressing myself, as well as my opinions about several topics, whether it be the ones I'm interested in, or some various topics taking place in current events. So whether I'm empowering others through motivational postings, or empowering myself through expression, that's the purpose I wanted to serve with this blog...
But so far in this first year, I felt I have failed at all that. I can promise you that I hope to do a lot better in this next year, and I can pique your interests in whatever is going on in this world, or my world.
But since today is the so called 1-year "bloggiversary" I want to do something special. I don't know if I'll go crazy and write long posts when I launched this blog last year... but I do plan to do at least one more post for the day. So, if you're reading this... tune in later today for at least another post. ;-)

Phone Blogging
As you can see from the blog I posted yesterday, today is the 1st day out of 14 where I'll do my daily blogging. And what better way to do so by posting my 1st blog by phone.
I just got a new Droid X a few days ago, and it is so awesome. This is my first experience with a smart phone, and it's simply too hard to put down. You can do many things with this phone, from blogging, through reading with Amazon Kindle, through all sorts of free games (to kill your productivity). Not to mention, the GPS and email features. There are free apps for lots of things. This phone does everything short of manual labor.
So there ya go... my 1st phone blog post. Cool huh? Regardless, I promise I'll talk about something a bit more interesting tomorrow.

OBE's Rejuvenated Dose - Time to Start a Habit
After working on the whole basement today (and skipping lunch), I really didn't feel like doing anything else. But, I made a promise in yesterday's blog, and I'll be damned if I break it. I promised that due to this blog approaching it's 1 year anniversary, I would announce something on this blog that will reward my readers, and hopefully gain a few more. So, starting today, I for the next 14 days, I will post at least one blog each day, whether a short quick thought, a huge content-rich and possibly educational post, or somewhere in the middle.
I feel I have to do this because, admittedly, I have been slackin on this blog. That's unacceptable, and that's something I'm not proud of. I have to use this outlet a lot more to express myself in a way, in a more loquacious manner than a 140-420 character status update. So, I promise I'll start doing so a lot more.
But why did I choose these next 14 days? Believe it or not, there's actually a reason for that. It has been said to me several times (mostly from reading, and from seminar listening), that it takes 14 straight days for a habit to formulate. So if I post at least something during these next 14 days, I can get into a habit of posting something everyday (or if not everyday, very frequently) well past those 14 days.
The way I see it, there shouldn't be many excuses for me to not post something. Reporters and media people consider blogs (along with Twitter, Facebook, and other social pages) as part of the "new media" and many post every day. Heck, even one of my business heroes, Ted Leonsis, who owns several professional sports teams, and has tons of other businesses, finds a way to post plenty of entries each day and keep in touch with his readers. So if he can do it, I'm sure I can. Not to mention, I finally got a smart phone (a Droid X), and it has a blogger app I can use.
So there you have it... these next 14 days are hopefully gonna be the start of something great with this blog. I'm sure there will always be something to talk about, so I shouldn't have too many excuses. But for those who are reading this, please hold me accountable if I'm not posting anything. With your help, I can even do more great things with this.
So definitely stay tuned for the next couple of weeks (and perhaps longer). It should be a good ride.

I have been neglectful...
The thing is, there hasn't been a shortage of things to talk about. There has been lots of things going on, from the BP oil spill, to the fluctuating (or so it seems) economy, to all the things going on in sports (with my local and favorite basketball professional team drafting a superstar last month, as well with NFL training camp starting this past week). I even had my birthday earlier this month. Truly, there has not been a shortage of topics to talk about.
So what's the problem? Is it time? Am I too busy? Have I been too pre-occupied? The answer to all of those questions are no. And even if those were the case, I should still find some time to do a little bit of OBE typing. I have just been spending a little time reflecting about the next move(s) I'm possibly gonna make, and where I'm going to be in the next five or ten years. And the reason why I haven't been blogging, is because some of those things I'm thinking about, I'd rather keep to myself (for now), and I'll talk about them when the time is right.
But even so, I haven't been fair to this blog, and to my few readers. Therefore, I'm going to make time for it, starting today, and to begin the month of August. This blog is approaching it's 1 year anniversary, so I definitely have to do something special with it to "commemorate it".
So starting tomorrow, I'm going to announce something I'm going to do. And I promise you, for anyone who have been reading and actually showed a little interest in whatever is in my mind, you will be rewarded!
Come August... "OBE's Dose" is gonna have a whole new meaning. Stay tuned...

PS: Being it's still officially July, I had to make this post, to officially get a post for the month. Couldn't have a month without a post, you know. ;-)

What's the Deal???
Anyway, like I said in the first entry, there is no set pattern or consistency as to when I'll blog. Just been up to a couple things over the past couple of weeks, so I wasn't quite up to it. But, rest assured, I do have a few topics that I wanna hit during the next couple weeks or so. I have a couple books I read that I want to give props to, got some sports to talk about (Bolt is the man), a couple of news topics that I want to hit (RIP Jasmine Fiore), not to mention, football season is in the horizon. Plus, I will be going to Spain in the end of the month (so I'm sure there are a few things I want to talk about). But on top of all that, I still promised my buddies in Facebook that I'll publish my "bucket list" (a la Ted Leonsis). So yeah, there's definitely a few things to look forward to in this blog.
All I can say is stay tuned. As far as this blog is concerned, demand nothing, but expect anything.

John's "Take" (...On a Couple Bloggers He Follows/Followed)
One blog that I really loved when it was around was that of Gilbert Arenas (the point guard for the Washington Wizards). From what I remembered of his blog, a lot of his entries were LONG, since he posted once every few days or weeks. But, he was such a captivating and quirky personality, that you can actually see it in his blog, and I usually ended up spending a lot of time reading most of what he wrote down. Some of it was stuff was controversial, and some of his stuff was slightly insightful and gave a nice perspective on how it was like to be one of the top point-guards in the NBA. That's what made his blog great. In fact, if I remembered correctly, Michael Wilbon once said in an episode of "Pardon the Interruption" that Gilbert's blog is the only blog he read. Too bad it's not around anymore though.
Another blog that I enjoy that really comes to mind (that I'll discuss more in detail) is that of Ted Leonsis. He was a former executive of AOL, and is now the owner of the Washington Capitals NHL franchise. If you haven't had a chance to check out his blog "Ted's Take", I encourage you to do so.
In my opinion, despite his success, he really comes out as one of the most genuine owners, and people out there, and in my opinion, he is a gold standard of what people should strive to be. When he was younger, he got into a near fatal accident, and since then, he has compiled a 101-things to do "bucket list", and has done many great things, like start businesses, make millions of dollars, buy the Washington Capitals (and turn them around), while also doing his part to better the world through philantrophy. He has already completed more than 70 items out of 101 in his impressive list, which is pretty impressive. Not only that, he is probably one of the few owners in sports who would take the time to actually interact with his fans, whether it's going to the streets to shake his hand, or allowing fans to send him e-mail. (I actually had a "back-and-forth" with him on Facebook in a few occasions).
In his blog, he covers a lot of stuff, from his day-to-day "involvement" with the Caps, as well as some news and opinions on his many other projects and (like his work in "filmantrophy" in SnagFilms). And, when he gives his opinions, you can tell he really watches how he carries himself, while at the same time, stays absolutely genuine while doing it. When the Caps played the Penguins in the NHL playoffs this past year, I'm sure he may have had opinions on how the series was handled, but he showed class by giving the Penguins nothing but the utmost respect and credit after they won the close series, and later the Stanley Cup. And after reading his blog, you can really sense that winning the Cup is something that he really wants and that he feels that his team is extremely close to getting it done. A lot of owners in sports can actually learn from Ted's humility and class (*cough*Dan Snyder*cough*Mark Cuban*cough*).
As a speaker, and as someone who once worked for a huge media conglomerate at one point, I have been blessed to meet and interact with a good amount of "successful" people (rich, famous, or both). Although I haven't met Ted in the flesh as of yet (which is something that I plan to eventually do at some point), he easily tops that list. Plus, despite how successful and busy he probably is, he still finds a way to connect with everyone, and even finds a way to blog (at times, several times a day).
I said to myself at one point, that if I ever got back into blogging, I'll try to follow the same example of "Ted's Take". I want to connect with my readers as much as I can, go on record with my opinions, while staying humble, genuine, and grounded and not appearing too "important" (that last part, I feel is a quality that I feel a lot of "successful" people lack). Hell, even the title "Obe's Dose" is somewhat of an homage to Ted, since it's two words short, and it's sort of a clever, alliterative title with my name on it.
I never believe in "idolizing" people, but if you can see the great and heroic qualities in them, and simply just strive to have those qualities, in my opinion, you should be in a good spot. In this entry, I'm not idolizing Ted, but just simply recognizing some of the qualities that makes his a great person. Like I said, in my opinion, he is probably the gold standard of the personality that people should strive to be. And if I can do just some of the things he does (blogging like he does would a small example), I can probably go real far.

The First "Dose"
First, I'd like to say that I probably haven't blogged seriously in about 3 1/2 years (more or less). I've blogged a little bit in my personal myspace account, but it wasn't serious, and I was doing it more primarily to promote my old podcast episodes (that I'm not doing anymore) and various stuff randomly going on. The last thing that I did that was closest to a "real blog" was "The Commentary Page" that I've done in my old personal website that I ran as a hobby back when I was in college. I started that back in 2001, so that was way back before RSS feeds and one click posting. I've constructed that blog strictly with HTML (yes, I admit a bit of a nerd when it comes to that stuff), so it was quite time consuming.
But, going back on that old commentary page, much of this new blog is probably NOT gonna be like that. Reading back on my old posts, I seemed like a really naive young person who was negative and bitched about life a lot. Not to mention, I was still trying to "find my way". Don't get me wrong, I am still trying to learn stuff, but I would proudly say, that I have grown a lot since then. What a difference a few years makes! And also, "Obe's Dose" isn't just going to focus on my personal life and issues (like my troubles on getting dates). Yes, it's still going to focus a bit on my life, but also, many topics of interests. A couple things that the commentary page had that I want to continue on this blog, I offered some interesting insight and was entertaining at times (even when I wasn't trying to be).
But, when I say "interests" I don't just mean offering my opinions in the fields I work in, which is motivation, making life choices, attitude, leadership, or anything in the "self-help" field. If there's one thing I learned in the past few years being a student of this field, the more you directly tell people they "need motivation" and try to shove it in their face, the more they will be turned off by it, even though you (or even they) know deep down, that they really need it. And also, when I read a lot of people's blogs, many make the mistake of only focusing on the topic/field they work in. Because of that, I end up getting bored to death and wasting my time when I read them because they don't seem "interesting" enough. So, in this blog, I not only want to talk about motivation/self-help and all the good and happy stuff I work at, but I also plan on covering various things going on in the world that I feel is of great interest, whether it be current events, mainstream culture, or even sports (football season is just a few weeks away you know).
Here are just a few topics I have in mind...
- An explanation of my new logo (The debut of this blog also marks the debut of the new "arm busting a box" logo. A full explanation of the concept behind the logo is in order.)
- the "new" concept behind ObeCorp
- Reviews of a few books I'm currently reading
- The upcoming football season, probably most focusing on my local (and favorite) team, the Washington Redskins)
Will I be "selling" stuff in this blog? Admittedly... YES, but not like the hundreds of the "marketers" you see in the Internet. If there's another thing I learned, if you're "networking" on the Internet (whether through Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, blogs, etc) nothing makes you look more like a bigger asshole than if you are constantly trying to pitch something with a sales letter like web page with multiple PPS postscripts. But, I will occasionally plug my stuff like my books, CDs, and speaking (because yes, I do have to eat too), and I will also plug other people's stuff, whether it be books I've read, movies I've seen, quotes I've heard, etc. As long as I think it's worth the mention, I'll mention it. But regardless of what I "pitch", I'm not gonna shove it down your throat, but would kindly say that it's worth your time.
As far as how often I plan on doing a blog... I can't really say how often I will post. It could be as often as several posts a day, but as slow as one post every few weeks. But, the goal is to at least one post a week. There are ideas coming into my head every single day, and I do want to use this blog to at least get some of those ideas out.
But no matter what, my main goal in doing this blog is to not only to get you guys to know me a little bit better through what I write, but to actually get in my head and actually SEE what I'm thinking while you're reading. I like to proudly say that I literally try to put my heart and soul in everything I do (whether it be in my speaking, books, internet videos, etc), and I want this blog to be no exception. For each post I do, I want to give something back to you for investing a little bit of your time to read the blog. I want you to get to know me, and at the same time feel entertained, enlightened, and maybe even educated. :)
Other than all of that (and the occasional spelling and dyslexic grammatical errors), this is what you can roughly expect from reading "Obe's Dose". Don't worry, I don't plan on having most of my posts be this long. However, I hope that what you've read in this inaugural entry has been good for you, and you'll check out this blog more often. (Bookmark this page or subscribe to the RSS feed now, hehe).
Thanks again for reading! YOU ARE AWESOME!!!
